Eaux Claires Music Festival Chooses EPG Security for Their Debut

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Eaux Claires Music Festival Chooses EPG Security for Their Debut

MINNEAPOLIS, July 9, 2015 — Fresh home from the largest deployment in company history at the Electric Forest Festival in Michigan, Twin Cities-based EPG Security will head to Eau Claire, Wis., for the last two weekends of July for two of the Midwest’s hottest music festivals of summer 2015: July 17-18, 115 agents will go to Eaux Claires, the much-anticipated festival being launched by Eau Claire native Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Aaron Dessner of the National. July 23-25, 50 agents will go to Country Jam, back for its 26th year as one of the nation’s top country music festivals and bringing EPG Security on board this year. At the same time, another 50 agents will head to the Lakefront Music Fest in Prior Lake, Minn., July 17-18.

“Our special events division is exploding this summer,” said Erik Bergling, founder and CEO of EPG Security Group. “We’ve just had 214 agents at Electric Forest in Michigan, and now we’re about to roll out our work for Eaux Claires, an amazing new festival we are proud to be part of.”

“We picked EPG Security for our event first based on their wide range of clients and second on their approach to security. Festival security is a difficult world that takes an independently owned company to analyze and master,” said Eaux Claires operations director Michael Snow (http://eauxclaires.com/). “The average consumer has more face time with security personnel over the course of the event than any other department aside from the artists they watch perform. EPG understands from their range of duties that every concert event is NOT the same and you have to create a method for each event with each position being a bit different in attitude towards the consumer. Erik understands that his people are there to enhance the experience while protecting the attendee along the way. We are excited to launch our partnership at our first Eaux Claires festival.”

Twin Cities’ EPG Security Rocks the National Music Festival Market

Twin Cities’ EPG Security Rocks the National Music Festival Market

EPG Security Bus

MINNEAPOLIS, June 16, 2015 — When your security agency becomes the go-to source for providing top-notch, customer-friendly security for music festivals from Minnesota to Arkansas, what better way to get your agents where they are needed than to buy a school bus?! The special events division of Minneapolis-based EPG Security Group is exploding, repeatedly beating out other security firms for business in the music festival industry. With a line-up for summer 2015 that is leading the agency to hire more agents, a bus was the logical next investment as EPG’s growing reputation crosses more and more state lines. That bus just returned from Arkansas, having brought 50 agents to EPG’s newest client, Indie rock music festival Wakarusa.

“EPG is one of the few Midwest security companies that can handle large-scale festivals, and now with our bus, we are mobile,” said Erik Bergling, founder and CEO of EPG Security Group. “Now we can bring our people to underserved areas that don’t have security options, and all at a reasonable cost. In fact, we will be purchasing two more buses in August to support our clients located farther afield.”

EPG worked the Northern Invasion heavy metal music festival in Somerset, Wis., back in May with 100 agents. At the same time, the bus was wrapped up in EPG’s black-and-gold logo and colors by Midwest Signtech in Rochester, Minn. The newly minted EPG bus will be making multiple runs this summer, as EPG’s June special events schedule is loaded:

  • June 4-7: Wakarusa, Mulberry Mountain, Ozark, Ark. (50 agents)
  • June 10-13: Kick’n Up Kountry Camping & Music Festival, Karlstad, Minn. (13 agents)
  • June 11-13: Blue Ox Festival, Eau Claire, Wis. (10 agents)
  • June 20-21: Rock the Garden, Minneapolis (75 agents)
  • June 26: Bryant Lake Bowl block party, Minneapolis (25 agents)
  • June 26-27: Buffalo Rodeo, Buffalo, Minn. (13 agents)
  • June 27-28: Pride Beer Dabbler, Minneapolis (25 agents)

EPG Security Group Signs with Kaskaid Hospitality

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Twin Cities’ EPG Security Group Signs with Kaskaid Hospitality
EPG brings signature style of security to CRAVE Downtown, Union/REV,
Muse Event Center

MINNEAPOLIS, May 6, 2015 – EPG Security Group announced it has been selected by Kaskaid Hospitality as the new security firm for three of their downtown Minneapolis locations: the rooftop of CRAVE, REV nightclub and Muse Event Center. EPG transitioned the security program for REV and Muse in April, and they will launch rooftop season at CRAVE in early May.

“For CRAVE’s rooftop, REV and Muse, we wanted to move to a more customer-friendly security crew, rather than having the old style of nightclub bouncer,” said Keyvan Talebi, co-owner with his brother Kam Talebi of Kaskaid Hospitality, parent company of the CRAVE restaurants and others. “Hospitality is the cornerstone of our business, and we want that to carry through to all aspects of our guests’ experience, including security. We chose EPG because this is what they are known for, and they share our values of integrity and accountability.”

With the new contract with Kaskaid, EPG will provide a total of 10-14 agents for the three venues, with more on event nights. The contract focuses on Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday brunch during CRAVE’s rooftop season and year-round at REV nightclub, and all events at Muse Event Center, seven days a week.

EPG’s hospitality division continues to grow as more venues choose EPG’s signature approach to hospitality security: Providing agents trained both in superior customer service and in the specific needs and values of each venue’s clientele, to be representatives of the clients themselves. Kaskaid joins EPG’s expanding roster of hospitality clients, which includes Cara Irish Pubs, Lowes Minneapolis Hotel, Aria at Jeune Lune, Chow Girl Catering, Passion Event Center and Dave and Buster’s.

Security, Medical Contracts for Rock the Garden 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Twin Cities’ EPG Wins Security, Medical Contracts for Rock the Garden 2014
Rock the Garden is first client for EPG’s newly launched medical division

MINNEAPOLIS, May 28, 2014 — When Twin Cities music fans Rock the Garden this summer, concert-goers will rock under the protective watch of EPG Security Group and its new sibling EPG Event Medical Solutions. Entertainment Protection Group (EPG) has been hired to build the emergency preparedness plan for Rock the Garden 2014, as well as provide security agents and medical personnel for the popular festival, which this year is expanding from one to two days and anticipating attendance of 12,000 people each day.

“We’re thrilled to have EPG on board for Rock the Garden this year,” said Todd Gregory, security and operations manager for the Walker Art Center. “We take great pride in providing a fun and safe concert for the thousands of music lovers who come to the Walker Art Center.”

The Walker has contracted with EPG Security Group for this year’s 10-band festival June 21-22, plus set-up starting the morning before and wrap-up the following day – requiring approximately 60 security agents over the four days. EPG Event Medical Solutions will provide about half a dozen EMTs, who will handle first response and triage and will augment local fire departments, police and paramedics.

“I am proud that EPG is going to bring our style of customer-oriented security and medical services to one of the Twin Cities’ favorite music events,” said Erik Bergling, founder and CEO of Entertainment Protection Group. “And I couldn’t be more pleased that Rock the Garden is the inaugural client for our new medical division. We signed the contracts and immediately dived right into building the emergency preparedness plan, with security and medical hand-in-hand.”

In fact, contracts are getting signed quickly for EPG’s expanding business with its steadily growing security group and newly launched medical and guest services divisions:
* EPG will handle security for the June 6th concert at the Hilde Performance Center, in Plymouth, Minn., featuring the Gear Daddies and Gary Louris and Karen Grotberg of The Jayhawks.
* GermanFest Minnesota, a family-friendly cultural festival held at St. Paul’s historic Schmidt Brewery, has contracted with EPG Security Group for this summer’s event the weekend of June 21-22.
* EPG Security Group is also lined up for Summer Set 2014, a three-day music and camping festival held in August in Somerset, Wis.
* Two EPG Security nightclub clients are in talks to sign on with the new EPG Guest Services, which will provide ticket-takers, hosts and ushers.

Veteran Owned Business

Six days after graduating from Anoka High School in 1993, Erik Bergling shipped out for U.S. Marine Corps boot camp. His father and grandfather had both served in the Navy, so he viewed military service as part of a man’s right of passage.

About a year later, Bergling broke his hip while stationed at Camp Pendelton in California as part of an infantry division. The injury required three pins and ultimately forced him to retire roughly three years into his initial four-year enlistment.

“It was a huge disappointment to me, to be honest,” he said. “That was all I wanted to be as a child. The Marine Corps was really my only career path.”

Bergling started going to school for law enforcement, viewing it as an alternate form of public service.

While in school, he began working as a bouncer at Prince’s Glam Slam nightclub in Minneapolis. Then, in fall 1998, there was a homicide at the nearby South Beach nightclub, and the club brought Bergling in to revamp its security department.

His work led to other opportunities. “I would get calls for private parties. Artists would come to town and they would want me to take care of them, arrange drivers, do some hotel advance work,” he said. “It got to the point where my phone kept ringing and I said, ‘I think we could make a go out of this.’ ”

In 2000, Bergling launched EPG Security Group, which provides guards for music venues, special events and executive protection. The company employs more than 200 security officers and is licensed in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Florida and soon Washington, D.C.

In addition to regular clients, EPG has served at major local events such as the 2008 Republican National Convention. This week, it launched a standalone medical unit, which will provide EMTs and paramedics for festivals and events, and a guest-services division that will provide insured hosts and ticket-takers.

The firm had $1 million in revenue in 2013 and expects $1.6 million this year.

EPG Security Group Parent Company Launches Medical, Guest Services Divisions

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Twin Cities’ EPG Security Group Parent Company Launches Medical, Guest Services Divisions
EPG is first Midwest security company to have medical division

MINNEAPOLIS, May 13, 2014 — The EPG family is growing today, as Entertainment Protection Group (EPG), the parent company of EPG Security Group, announces the launch of two new divisions that will turn EPG into a one-stop shop for major events: Joining EPG Security Group are EPG Event Medical Solutions and EPG Guest Services. With this expansion combined with the double-digit growth of its security division, EPG is now competing against some longtime well-known security companies for major events and festivals. One contract at a time, EPG is winning.

“Over the years, clients have always asked if we provide these kinds of services, as they regularly need to line up security, ticket-takers and ushers, and medical personnel, and they would prefer to take care of it all with one trusted source,” said Erik Bergling, CEO and founder of Entertainment Protection Group, LLC. “We’ve had non-stop strong growth with our security business, and this has broadened the kinds of events we’re able to compete for now. So we recognized the time is exactly right to expand. We’re getting a good response and are already in talks with some of the largest, most well-known festivals in the Upper Midwest. And yes, we are hiring!”

EPG Event Medical Solutions will provide licensed and insured first responders, EMTs and paramedics to large-scale festivals and sporting events. No other security company in the Midwest has a stand-alone medical division. Starting with 10 to 20 employees, this division will provide first response or triage for event-goers and athletes and will help augment local fire departments, police and paramedics. Personnel will be grounded in the same customer service standards that EPG Security Group is known for.

EPG Guest Services will provide insured hosts, ushers and ticket-takers to large-scale festivals, sporting arenas, and other venues that use temporary services for these positions. The division will also offer waiter services to catering companies and informational personnel for airports, shopping malls and office buildings. While these personnel are not security agents, all personnel will be cross-trained with security and safety, as well as EPG’s customer service standards. This division will start with 15 to 25 employees.

The past 18 months have seen several large-scale events and festivals change their security contracts to EPG Security Group, including most recently Red Bull Crashed Ice held in St. Paul in February, which drew a record crowd of 120,000 spectators on race day. More events are in the pipeline, with a number of organizers already discussing contracts with EPG’s newest divisions.

Criminal justice students hired to provide security at international competition in Saint Paul

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (February 19, 2014) – Continuing the 125 year commitment to providing students with hands-on, career-focused learning, Globe University and Minnesota School of Business have teamed up with EPG Security Group to provide qualified personnel to help ensure the safety of more than 100,000 people expected to attend Red Bull Crashed Ice event in St. Paul February 21-22, 2014. EPG Security Group has hired nine students to help provide physical security at the live and nationally televised event.

“This large scale outdoor event will allow our students to gain valuable experience,” says Criminal Justice Program Chair Joseph Vanasse. “It’s a great opportunity for them to demonstrate their skills in a real-world setting.”

The students are currently enrolled in the criminal justice degree program where they are learning communication skills, traffic and personnel control and the basics of defense. In addition to their schooling, the students are undergoing an intense three to four hours of training with EPG where they’re learning the basics of radio communication, what to look for at the event and the level of response to incidents. This is the first half of their required 12 hours of reassignment training that the State of Minnesota requires for all Protective Agents. The second half will be completed post event. Upon completion of the first training session the students will get the chance to apply their skills learned working the two-day event.

“The students’ responsibilities will include monitoring the crowd for potential risk, protecting athletes competing in the event, checking IDs and distributing wristbands, coordinating with emergency services and general crowd control,” says EPG Security Group CEO Erik Bergling.

Red Bull Crashed Ice is an ice cross downhill race. This is the third year Red Bull has brought the hugely popular event to Saint Paul. Hundreds of Americans have competed in eight qualifying events leading up to this second stop on the four-leg world championship tour. The Saint Paul track is said to be one of the most challenging ever built, at 430 meters long with a vertical drop of 40 meters. Twin Cities’ EPG Security Group Lands Security Contracts for Large-Scale Events in 2014

Red Bull Crashed Ice – Ice Cross Downhill Race in February, Summer Set Music & Camping Festival in August

MINNEAPOLIS, January 16, 2014 — EPG Security Group announced today it has been selected as the new security firm for two hot-ticket events in the region for 2014: Red Bull Crashed Ice, an International Ice Cross Downhill race held in St. Paul this February, which is expected to attract more than 100,000 spectators on race day, Feb. 22; and Summer Set Music & Camping Festival, held over a three-day August weekend in Somerset, Wis., which will draw more than 18,000 concert-goers and campers each day. Both the Red Bull Crashed Ice and Summer Set Music & Camping Festival are entering their third year of producing these events, and both have changed their security vendor contracts to EPG Security Group.

“EPG saved the day for us in 2013, when another company fell through just two weeks before our event and EPG stepped right in,” said Jonathan Keogh, director of festival operations for Festival Management Services, Inc., the Pennsylvania-based company that manages Summer Set Music & Camping Festival. “They were easy to deal with, attentive, knowledgeable, and most importantly, delivered on their promises. Their preplanning methods were impressive and went well beyond what was expected. During the event all of EPG’s interactions with promoters, talent, and patrons were professional, from front line agents up to the senior management, at all times of day or night. It truly came across that they take pride in their profession. We have already contracted with EPG for Summer Set 2014, and we are in talks to use them at other festivals in the future.”

“There were several reasons EPG was selected to provide security services for the 2014 Red Bull Crashed Ice event in St. Paul. Primarily it was the professionalism shown by Erik and his team in our initial face to face meeting that turned out to be the main factor when making our decision,” said Andrew Markey, President of Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA based Hangman Productions which produces the Red Bull Crashed Ice event in St. Paul. “The build out for the Red Bull Crashed Ice event in St. Paul is a massive undertaking that spans over a five-week period, all the while requiring a vast range of security personnel. The event will require anywhere from six security agents all the way up to nearly 200 agents on February 22, 2014, the day of the finals. The Hangman team are in agreement that EPG is very aware of the magnitude, prestige, and reputation this event brings with it, and our expectation is that they will go over and above to make sure the Red Bull Crashed Ice event will be a top notch in their belt.”

“For nearly 30 years, the Upper Midwest has had limited choices for security companies that could handle large-scale events and festivals,” said Erik Bergling, CEO of EPG Security Group. “With EPG’s strong and steady growth over the past few years, we are now well positioned to provide a new option for event and festival producers: A security firm that handles large, complex events with the same professional, holistic approach we have always brought to our clients, with agents who are hired as much for their customer-oriented, tactful style as for their training and skills.”

Minneapolisʼs EPG Security Group Retained by Top Events Planners for Republican National Convention Events in Tampa

MINNEAPOLIS, August 14, 2012 — EPG Security Group announced today it will be heading to Tampa later this month to provide protective services for senior elected officials and special events surrounding the Republican National Convention. The firm has been retained by two different national political clients to provide security for areas inside the convention forum itself, parties for state delegations and the elected officials attending those events.

Both contracts are the result of relationships initially forged with EPG Security Group when the RNC was held in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 2008. The work performed by EPG in St. Paul led to the firm being brought to Washington, DC, to provide security for events around President Obama’s inauguration in 2009, and again for the Speaker of the House’s election party in 2010.

“I am proud of the relationships we’ve established with our political clients and extremely proud of the hard work of my team,” said Erik Bergling, CEO of EPG Security Group. “Together they are the foundation of our continued growth.”

“I was impressed by EPG’s Midwest work ethic when they worked for us at the RNC in St. Paul,” said Julie Wadler, founder and president of Epiphany Productions, Inc., a premier, full-service event management and fundraising firm based just outside of Washington, DC, that has hired EPG to provide RNC-related security in Tampa. “Our reputation as event planners is based on exceptional service, know-how, and attention to detail. We need to work with vendors that provide us with those same qualities, so we can give our clients the best, customized services they need to be successful. Erik Bergling and his firm do just that. They are flexible, easy to work with, detail- oriented, and – yes, nice.”

EPG Security Group To Take Over Security Program for the Myth Nightclub in Maplewood

EPG continues growth track, creating 20 new security jobs in metro area

MINNEAPOLIS, May 3, 2012 — EPG Security Group announced today it has been retained by Myth concert and club venue in Maplewood, Minnesota, to provide security services for concerts and other special events. EPG Security will start immediately, beginning with tonight’s concert by Rusko, at 9 pm. EPG will incorporate Myth’s current security employees and then hire additional protective agents to fully staff the new program.

“At Myth, we decided it was time to transition from handling our own security in-house to hiring a professional company,” said Ryan Kovaleski, general manager of Myth. “This will enable us to further focus on what we do best, which is giving concert enthusiasts an unparalleled club experience. We chose EPG Security because of their excellent reputation in the business and their high standards of customer service.”

“We are very pleased to begin working with Myth and bring our style of customer-oriented, professional security to this concert venue,” said Erik Bergling, CEO of EPG Security Group. “I anticipate that this new opportunity will allow us to create about 20 new jobs. Over the past three months, EPG has seen immense growth, growing from 20 positions to 90 employees on our payroll. As a result, EPG is emerging as the go-to event security company in the state.”

EPG Security Group To Handle Security Program for Twin Citiesʼ New Concert Venue The Brick

EPG doubles size with new client growth, creates 50 new security jobs in metro area

MINNEAPOLIS, March 15, 2012 — EPG Security Group announced today it has been hired by the newest music venue in the Twin Cities, The Brick, owned and operated by AEG Live. EPG Security has developed and will handle the entire security program at The Brick, from ticket-taking and screening at the front door, to ushers and physical security inside, for both concert events and “The Basement @ The Brick,” a bar that will be open Thursday to Saturday nights on show and non-show days. To fully staff the new program, EPG has hired more than 50 protective agents. EPG Security and The Brick will go live with the new venue and security program on Monday, March 19, 2012, with what is already a sold-out concert by the band Jane’s Addiction.

The concept of a burly, aggressive bouncer is out at EPG Security Group, where security personnel are hired as much for their customer-oriented, tactful approach as for their professional training and skills. It was this approach at EPG Security that drew the attention of management at The Brick.

“Our goal in creating The Brick as a new venue in the Twin Cities is to give concert-goers a unique, intimate music experience. Because security personnel are the first people our guests interact with when they come to the venue — getting carded and wrist-banded — it was a top priority to us to find the right agency that could provide a professional, customer-oriented security program. EPG Security Group provides exactly what we were looking for,” said Jeff Kehr, general manager of The Brick. “EPG’s protective agents are well-trained, approachable, and respectful, contributing to the overall first-class experience our guests have when they come to The Brick.”

“The vision for security that The Brick had aligns with our company’s philosophy, and we’re proud to be part of this new intimate music venue,” said Erik Bergling, CEO of EPG Security Group. “This opportunity has allowed EPG to open up a large number of jobs, and the timing was just right, as we found a good climate for hiring. We were seeking, as we always do, men and women with the right professional qualifications, a strong work ethic, and the shared values of treating our clients’ customers and guests with dignity, being polite and welcoming, and using brains before brawn. We were very pleased to find a good base of candidates right here in the Twin Cities, and we were able to fill the positions quickly.”

Most of the new positions are starting as part-time, and Bergling expects about half of these to eventually go full-time.
